“All the Dirts” refers to our Pinot Noir that is a blend of all the vineyards that we work with. We strive for this wine to be a reflection South Gippsland Pinot Noir, ready to drink from the outset, with layers of flavour, juicy mid-palate and a silky finish . For us, Pinot should be harmonious, balanced, beautiful and delicious.
In 2017 the grapes predominantly came from our own Holgates Rd (Dirt 3) vineyard, along with Berrys Creek (Dirt 1) and a new vineyard, Silverwaters. Unfortunately, the yields from Tilson (Dirt 2) were very low in 2017, so all of the grapes went in to our Dirt 2, single vineyard wine.
The 2017 was a fantastic vintage for growing Pinot Noir – one of the best we can remember. It reminds us of a cross between 2012 and 2015, both exceptional vintages. The season was cool and yields were low due to a cold and windy spring. The cool summer and autumn weather allowed a long ripening season, which helped to deliver wines with harmony, balance and detail. We are really pleased with this Pinot, certainly the best blend we have released to date. The wine is fragrant and perfumed, with the right balance of herbal complexity and bright red fruits. The wine is fresh and vibrant and delivers a long silky palate with good weight and balanced acidity – a hallmark of good Gippsland Pinot. A great drink now, but will also reward cellaring for at least 5-10 years.
